People take to spending the summer holidays in the cool weather of the Himalayas. The tourists seek to spend the summers away from the scorching heat of the plains and take to the hill stations. Dharamsala, in the state of Himachal Pradesh, is one such place which is visited by tourists from all over India. This is the place famous for being the resident town of Dalai Lama, the famed Tibetan spiritual head. The place is well connected with rail, road and air ways from different cities, including Amritsar and Pathankot in Punjab, Kangra in Himachal and even from cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. It lies on National Highway 20 which connects Kangra with Pathankot. This is one of the coolest and best places to visit near Delhi.
Dharamsala has some famous historical and natural sight-seeing places which are often frequented by the visiting tourists. Some of the important landmarks are:
1. Mcleodganj: This is the place where Dalai Lama actually lives. This is located on the upper reaches of Dharamsala. This place is a major Buddhist centre.

2. Bhagsunag Fall: Bhagsunag is a place which is known for its fresh water falls, fresh water springs and an old temple. This place is also famous for its slate quarries. Bhagsu waterfall is one of the main attractions of Mcleodganj.
3. St. John’s Church: This is the place where Lord Elgin, one of the British viceroys of India, was buried after he died in Mandi. The place is located in the Deodar forests between the Mcleodganj and Forsythganj. There is a cemetery around the church.
4. Dharamkot: This is a famous picnic spots which is actually located on the hill crest overseeing the Kangra Valley.
5. War Memorial: This is another place where you can visit when you go to Dharamsala in your holidays. It is built in the memory of all those who fought for the motherland.
6. Kunal Pathari: This is the place where the temple of local goddess is built. This is close to beautiful tea gardens of the place and one is greeted with refreshing winds.
7. Kareri Lake: This lake is surrounded by green meadows and oak and pine trees.

8. Dal Lake: This is not the same as the Dal lake of Srinagar. Rather, this Lake is some kilometres away from lower Dharamsala.
9. Tsuglagkhang Complex: This is a monastery of the Dalai Lama. It has large meditation hall
with tall statues. It also has Kalachakra temple. Outside Tibet, this is the best places to visit near Delhi and is the largest temple outside Tibet.
10. TIPA: Tibetan Institute of Performing arts is the place which is thriving with the Tibetan traditional performances of dance, music and theatre.
11. Kangra Art Museum: This museum show the rich past of the Kangra kings. It showcases numerous artefacts, arts, crafts, dresses, other clothing and many other items of the past era.
There is a lot of natural beauty, historical monuments and spiritual places to visit for complete relaxation of the mind, body and soul.
